Giant robot chess set made from Lego Mindstorms

It's hard to decide what makes the "Monster Chess" set so monster. Is it the fact that it measures 12 feet on a side and would take up your entire living room? Or how about the fact that it uses 100,000 Lego pieces, which, all told, add up to a hefty fee of $30,000?
Then again, there's also the whopping four years of labor it took to get it done, and the fact that some of the pieces — such as the knight — animate. In fact, they're automated too: they'll move out of the way for one another, and plot a route to the outside of the board when they're taken.
