Now you can live deep underground and still feel like you're relaxing next to a babbling brook. The eScape window is actually a 40-inch 1080p LCD monitor, recessed in the wall and mounted behind a realistic-looking window frame. Included are eight full-HD videos ranging from a half hour to 1.25 hours long, showing gorgeous scenes of soothing natural beauty along with high fidelity sound. Man, this is almost better than the real thing.
We've shown you a setup similar to this before, a custom-built two-window arrangement that was remarkably sophisticated. That one included a sensor connected to a necklace that would make the image pan in the opposite direction the viewer was moving. This eScape window is not quite that fancy, but it's now available for everyone. And it's not cheap, selling for $9,750. Ouch.
According to Sky Factory reps we talked to, more videos will be available, and there's talk of larger screens on the way. What we'd like to see: the ability to attach an HD camera to the system, for a live shot from outside the building. Or what about connecting it to HD webcams all over the world (or from earth orbit, the moon, Mars?!)? The possibilities boggle the mind.
