Shocking pink solar sculpture graces a posh London doorway

While it may look like invading aliens just landed in London's über-posh Belgrave Square, this luminous pink tree is actually just an art installation called OR2.

Built by the Orproject design group, OR2 performs a couple of basic functions. During the day, photovoltaic cells soak up and store solar energy while providing shade for passers by, then at night the stored power is used to give the entire structure an eerie pink glow.

Created for the London Festival of Architecture, OR2 will grace the doorway of London's Italian Cultural Institute through next weekend.
