All the talk and rumor has now turned into reality. Hulu announced it will soon be offering Hulu Plus, a premium version of its online television service, charging $10 a month for HD episodes of entire seasons of network TV shows from ABC, NBC and Fox.
The service will offer its shows not only for watching on computers, but it will also be avail;able for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch over Wi-Fi or 3G. Starting next month, the Sony PS3 will be able to bring you the service, and in early 2011, the Xbox 360 will follow. Beyond that, you'll be able to watch Hulu Plus on Sony, Samsung, and Visio TVs and Blu-ray players.
Could this be the straw that broke the cable camel's back? Is it time to dump your cable? Of course it is, but then, we dropped our cable service a long time ago. That said, if Hulu Plus would somehow also be able to give us HD quality HBO and Showtime programs on demand, along with AMC with its spectacular Mad Men and Breaking Bad series, we think it would be worth the $10 a month.
The bad news: Hulu Plus is not available yet, nor is Hulu saying when you'll be able to get it. You can ask to be invited to the preview, though. Sheesh, must be nice to have your customers knocking down your doors to be invited to hand over their money.
