Sidewinder firefighting helmet looks straight out of space
Tuesday, April 6, 2010 - 10:44am
The Sidewinder self-contained breathing apparatus, or SCBA, is a mask designed for firefighters to help them breathe when in rooms filled with smoke. It connects to a shoulder-mounted air tank with a retractable air tube, and the mask itself features a voice amplifier, flashlight and heads-up display for showing information about the situation to the user.
It certainly is a slick-looking device, isn't it? But as it's just a concept right now, it's not clear if this will ever actuall make it onto the faces of any real firefighters. And since this thing looks seriously expensive, there would have to be some serious budgets in place to pay for them. But hey, maybe someday.
