Work almost complete on world's first building with built-in turbines
It's not the first time we've seen wind turbines on a building, but it is the first time they've been built into the design from the beginning, and realized as a real structure. In April, London will put the finishing touches on the $171 million Strata, which will add some proverbial green to the city's skyline. There is a mandate in place in the UK for all new buildings to be zero carbon by 2019, and the 485-foot, 42-story Strata, with its three turbines that provide 8% of the building's energy, is a step toward that end. A nice touch is that the Stara's turbines use a five blade design instead of three, which cuts down on noise pollution, as well.
