What a great idea — a solar electric lawnmower. After all, it's usually sunny when you're cutting the grass, so why not harness all that energy to spin a mower blade? You charge its removable polymer-ion battery inside, and while you're out there mowing it gathers even more energy to keep going and going.

This design concept for an electric lawnmower by Studio Volpi won a Red Dot Design Award. Nice, but it's been done. However, this one's built for the smaller lawns of the future, and has an easily changed bag to get rid of those clippings. Now if the designers can only inject some smarts into this tool, it could someday robotically cut your lawn, unassisted. Oh wait, somebody's already done that, with solar charging, too, but none are as good-looking as this one.
