AmberAlert My Child ID: calm during an emergency
Quick: how tall is your son? How much does your daughter weigh? Is she allergic to anything? If there's an emergency, having this information handy can save precious minutes.
My Child ID 2.0, from AmberAlert.com, is a small portable USB device that stores vital details about your children, or even elderly parents, in one location that can be stored in the car, purse or even keychain. When plugged into your computer, it prompts you to fill out critical information about your family, in a highly secure program that's backed up online. It stores medical history, emergency contacts, and even digital photos. This is integrated with the AmberAlert Law Enforcement Alerting Portal (L.E.A.P.) to get information out to officials when every second counts. Law enforcement can access the data from the online backup with the parent's access code and password, or by plugging the USB into a laptop. The device has a small digital display that plays a slide show of your pictures, but in an emergency, you can easily get a photo to officials or the media.
"According to the Department of Justice, the first three hours a child is missing are the most critical for their safe return. Understandably, parents can become hysterical in an emergency situation, hindering the ability of law enforcement to obtain crucial information for hours," said Harlan Lyons, CEO of AmberAlert.com. "My Child ID is a proactive tool for parents, law enforcement and emergency responders to safeguard children by helping to reduce the time it takes to gather accurate information when time is critical."
The My Child ID 2.0 is available for sale for $39.95 and includes one free year of online backup of your data. For a limited time, DVICE readers can enter code DVICE for $5.00 off the purchase price. The proceeds from the sale of My Child ID allows AmberAlert.com to support state AMBER Programs at no cost.
