McDonald's expands free Wi-Fi to 11,500 U.S. locations

Go ahead, get me a nagging weight-loss plate, but I love McDonald's. The gigantic greasemonger just gave us one more reason to be lovin' it, because starting last Friday (1/15/10), it began giving away free Wi-Fi, unlimited, at 11,500 of its 14,000 U.S. burger joints.

Not a bad deal, considering that it used to cost $2.95 for two hours in many of those same restaurants. Ever aiming to please, McDonald's offers an easy lookup site, letting you know if that wireless connectivity is available in your neighborhood. I like this so much, I'm going to go try it right now.

Okay, I'm here. What kind of speed can you get for free? Eh. But hey, it's free, and it also worked on my iPhone. See the gallery below for a step-by-step look at the experience, including a speed test. Now that's what I call having it my way. Which reminds me — Burger King and Wendy's: now it's your turn to step up to free. Airports, you too.
