A couple of years ago Kobe, Japan announced plans to build a giant, life-sized statue of the famed anime character Gigantor to be unveiled in 2008. But delays took hold and only now has the real work begun on the statue.
Originally set to cost $135 million yen ($1.5 million), the project probably got a jumpstart after the organizers watched the quick start and subsequent press attention the Tokyo-based Gundam life-sized robot garnered. You can see the new video footage of the work in progress to bring Gigantor to life here.
