Leave it to the Japanese to make sending an astronaut into space as fun as it always should be. Sure, there are scientific reasons to go to space, but where's the whimsy?
Jaxa astronaut Koichi Wakata was given a set of 16 zero-gravity challenges by the Japanese public, all of which he's dutifully trying out. In this example, he surfs through space on a "flying carpet" that's actually a full-sized bathroom mat with some adhesive tape keeping him connected. Now that's science I can get behind.
