Docomo brings Google Android phone to Japan

Still smarting over losing the coveted Japan-based iPhone deal to Softbank over a year ago, Docomo is finally ready to take a stab at redemption with their new Google Android-powered cell phone. The touchscreen-enabled 3G phone is called the HT-03A, has a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, comes in white or black, and offers an external microSD memory card slot for 2gigabyte and 4 gigabyte memory cards.

Featuring a trackball, WiFi, and optimized for Google's mobile services, the unit will likely present a new option for existing Docomo customers who were attracted to the iPhone, but wanted to avoid switching service providers. The new phone is scheduled to hit the Japanese streets sometime in June or July.
