Audiomatryoshkas: Russian nesting-doll speakers that don't actually nest
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 - 8:39am
Everything old is new again. The classic Matryoshka dolls that decorated thousands of Russian mantles are now iPod-ready. (Isn't everything?) Russian designer Alex Mamontoff set out to "bring this instantly familiar and archaic form closer to the younger audience."
The Audiomatryoshkas are just a prototype right now, but the designer did produce a working model that was shown at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2008 in Milan. Sadly, it'll probably never see the mass market. Even sadder, the speakers don't actually nest, which kind of defeats the purpose, if you ask me.
What do you think? Russian nesting doll, bowling pin, or penguin? Cuteness is in the eyes of the beholder.
