We long for the day when all cell phone cameras are as good as a typical point-and-shoot digital camera. That day may be slightly closer with the U.S. debut of the Samsung M8800 Pixon, a cell phone with an 8-megapixel camera on board. You can now get it in the U.S. as an unlocked phone, and it may soon be available via AT&T.
Keep in mind that the size of the image sensor, not the number of pixels it contains, is the most important factor in camera image quality. But a CNET review of this 3G, pixel-packing, GPS-geotagging, but Wi-Fi-lacking pocket-sized cameraphone calls its photos "worthy of framing."
Let's hope all other cell phone cameras follow Samsung's lead. Yeah, we're looking at you, you lousy 2.0-megapixel iPhone camera.
