Polar FT80 Fitness Training Computer is more than just a watch

This Polar FT80 is not just a watch that looks like it's from a science fiction movie. It's an intelligent training computer you wear on your wrist. With its built-in heart monitor, it can tell how you're tolerating exercise, and when you attach the optional G1 GPS module, it figures in your speed and distance traveled. We like its strength recovery capability, telling you when you're ready for more exercise after a rest.

This has got to be one of the coolest-looking watches ever — we thought it was a design concept at first. But be sure you see it in your own hands before buying, because we've seen a comment noting its dim display and too-basic GPS functions. With the G1 GPS sensor, it's $429.95; without, it's $329.95. If this one doesn't do it for you, try the excellent Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS watch — both DVICE editor Pete Pachal and I give it an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
