Simple and useful — the CI Rack epitomizes what we like about good design. Folded up, the rack is merely a piece of wood with leather patches oddly placed on its surface. But unfold it and the leather's purpose becomes apparent: they're hinges that connect individual slats of wood, turning the otherwise flat board into a series of racks to hang things off of. Cool.

Created by Austrian design studio Creative Industrial Objects, the CI Rack is one of a three-part series of products from the firm, each taking a common household object and expanding its function through design. Although you can't buy any of them yet, the company apparently has plans to start production soon. We can't wait.
