Wanna-be cutting-edge art photographers got a cool new toy to play with recently from Takara Tomy called the XIAO. The XIAO is a digital camera that takes the place of the old school Polaroid Instamatic by allowing users immediately print their digital photos on the spot via its built-in printer. The 5megapixel camera comes with a 2.48-inch LCD screen and packs 16megabytes of memory.
The company plans to initially target the device at Japanese women in their 30s and 40s, but it's likely that purikura (Japanese instant photo booths) obsessed Japanese school girls will get in on the action as well. The XIAO is scheduled to go on sale on November 28 in Japan and in the U.S. sometime in May 2009 for 34,800 yen ($357) here.
