Even the brightest cell phone screens can be tough to see in bright sunlight, getting washed out and impossible to read. You end up having to shade the screen with your hand, which is annoying and makes it tough to type. Oh, what problems we live with! Luckily, it looks like Epson is looking into a solution.
They've come up with a new technology called Photo Find High Reflect (HR) transflective amorphous silicon TFT (a-TFT) LCD. What this means is that in low light, it uses a backlight to make the screen be visible. In bright light, however, it uses reflections to use the natural light to light up the screen. Makes sense, doesn't it? Let's hope we'll be seeing this on a new generation of mobile devices soon enough.
