The spoils of war: HD-DVD for $90, and you still get 7 free movies
Buying an HD-DVD player today might sound a bit like buying tickets for the last flight of the Hindenburg, knowing it's going to crash. But let's think about this for a second. It's taken a few days for Toshiba's pull-out from HD-DVD to filter through to retail channels, but now the slashing has begun. Tiger Direct has the Toshiba HD-A3 for $89.99, and they'll still throw in seven free movies. Amazon.com, has the same player (also shipping from Tiger Direct) for only $82.97 with two free movies in the box, but you'll have to go to Toshiba's site to get the coupon for the five additional discs. Both sources also have deals on the step-up HD-A30 and HD-A35 models.
While they won't play Blu-ray, any of these players do a great job playing SD DVDs too.
