MIT to plant telescope farm on the moon

The crazy kids are at it again, this time teaming up with NASA to proceed with a project that would plant hundreds of telescopes over a two square kilometer area on the far side of the moon that always faces away from the Earth.

The purpose of the telescopes is to explore the "Dark Ages," which is the time when the universe first came into existence as star and galaxies were developing. To do this the telescopes collect and analyze low-frequency radio transmissions that may be able to tell a thing or two about the beginning of the universe. The team cannot use the telescopes to collect data from the Earth because of a high amount of interference thanks to all of our gadgets and doodads.

The telescopes will be put in place by rovers.
