CES Weird: GPS-enabled sneakers
Remember the episode of Seinfeld, when Kramer manages to lose Jerry’s sneakers? By the end of the episodes the pair were on a bus heading to Florida in a vain search to retrieve the shoes. This wouldn’t be necessary if Jerry had the GPS-enabled sneakers from Meridian Health, which showed off its new digital health-care products at this year’s Lunch at Piero’s media event.
Along with a new blood-pressure sensor built directly into a standard PC optical mouse, and glowing caps for medication bottles with built-in feedback loops to remind users to take their meds, Meridian Health introduced the aforementioned sneakers. All joking aside these could be a godsend for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s Disease or other memory impairments. The shoes are GPS-enabled and feature an emergency service response should a loved one accidentally wander off. Now if they only alerted you if your wacky neighbor stole your shoes!
