A team from Southern Taiwan University of Technology has unveiled the first solar-powered wheelchair that frees users from having to worry about running out of power and getting stranded in the middle of nowhere. Because the wheelchair doesn't have to be charged the old-fashioned way, the chair should last longer than regular models and is good for the environment, too.
The chair is rolling out the research door and is on the way to mass production. According to the research team, it'll actually be cheaper than current electric-powered chairs. An early look at the prototype looks like the solar panel can fold down for storage behind the seat, but even if it's a permanent fixture, it'll make for a handy sun and rain guard.
