Cell phones: a guitarist's new best friend?

Need to tune your guitar in a pinch? Gudmundur Freyr Jónasson of Iceland has a program that runs off your cell phone and it compares the notes you're playing to how they should sound. Jónasson's idea is still in the works, but as it stands right now you would be able to call a service or run the application on your phone as you would a mobile game, and then keep an eye on your screen as you strummed and tweaked. A guitar player himself, Jónasson came up with the concept when he personally saw the need to be able to easily tune his guitar in a variety of venues, such as a loud club or soft, outdoor space.

Gudmundur Freyr Jónasson is a student in computer sciences at the University of Iceland and won an award from his institution for his work.
