Keeping tabs on your house via cell phone
Do you ever get anxious while you're on vacation, worrying that home sweet home might not be just as you left it when you get back? Sure, you can ask a friendly neighbor to keep an eye on the place, but nothing calms that fear of disaster quite like seeing a live picture. While there have been fancy systems that you can hook up and access from the Internet for years, finding a Wi-Fi signal and firing up the laptop every time you need a little peace of mind just isn't practical.
Here's a better solution: set up a battery-powered video camera with its own built-in SIM card to watch your place. Then you could access it at anytime from your cell phone. The system even lets you pan, tilt, and zoom the image, and you can set it to record if you happen to see Mr. Tibbles throwing a party with some local strays.
Unfortunately the card is only available in Singapore from SingTel. No word yet on whether any U.S. service providers plan to offer something similar.
