The ambitious "$100 laptop" One Laptop Per Child program is finally coming to fruition after nearly 2 years of talk, with a boosted price ($188) and a completed product. While most of these little computers are being sold to agencies for distribution to kids in developing countries, you too will get a chance to own this green and white piece of tech.
Rather than selling the OLPC laptop to loaded Americans for the same price as the kids it's designed for, they'll only be available as part of a "Give 1, Get 1" deal. That's to say you'll spend $400, get a laptop, and another laptop will then be donated to a child free of charge. It's a pretty great plan, allowing geeks who want to play with a cheapo laptop to get their fix while helping the project's mission at the same time. If you want to get on board, the Give 1, Get 1 program will only be happening from November 12 to November 26, so don't miss out.
