Speaker Chair rests, shakes your booty
Mergers of technology and furniture are often ill-conceived, but installing a subwoofer in a chair can be a great idea if it's done right. Bass frequencies below 20 Hz can only be felt, not heard, and you need a large, powerful speaker to produce them. Rather than getting a big, boxy sub to shake the whole room (and annoy neighbors), why not build it right into the chair?
That's the idea behind Pinju Chen's Speaker Chair, whose papasan-esque design is based around a huge speaker driver. The arms also contain speakers, as well as a dock for your iPod and a CD player. It all adds up to a seat that can go from comfort zone to rock central at the touch of a button. You can't buy one yet, as it's merely a design project at the moment, but see if you can get a hold of Chen if you're interested in putting one for your listening room.
