Select Comfort upgrades your sleep by dissipating body heat

Hey, man, what's your sleep number? It's not a weird question when you're talking about Select Comfort's customizable beds — those ones where you can adjust the firmness of the mattress from a rating of 0 (ultrasoft) to 100 (majorly firm), even going so far as to have different numbers for each side so daddy can keep his side firm even if mommy likes things soft.

The Sleep Number beds have been around for a while, but now the company's upgrading your sleep experience even further by keeping you cool during the night. Just under the pillowtop surface is a layer of material called Outlast — a gel that's meant to absorb body heat and dissipate it, rather than having it build up beneath you. Since your body temperature drops as you sleep, the idea is to keep your environment cool as well, so you're not kicking away blankets as the night goes on. I don't know if it would be as welcome in January as in August, but we're convinced. Too bad it's only in the top-of-the-line Sleep Number 9000, so experiencing this cool luxury will cost you $3,200.
