Getting people drugged is a good way to get them to calm down and stop being violent. Unfortunately for police and members of the military, it's not all that easy to administer drugs from afar to unwilling subjects. That could change in the future, however, due to some fancy-shmancy new products.

For example, paintball guns might become a viable weapon on the battlefield when equipped with balls full of chemicals designed to take people down without causing permanent damage. Another idea is to pack a felt pad soaked with chemicals into an air rifle, producing basically the same effect. Both measures seem like things I wouldn't ever want to be on the receiving end of, but if it was between that and real bullets, well, I'd take the paintballs. — Adam Frucci
