Cell phone blockers make reception bars disappear, are illegal

You really like it to be quiet at the movie theater, but you don't have one of these handy remotes. How are you going to fight back? Well, there is a gadget out there that literally blocks cell phone service within a "2 to 40 foot range," with reviews translating that figure to a functional 10-20 feet. So maybe it's not for a large movie theater, but there are so many possible applications for this little blocker: the beach, restaurants, even taxis and buses. This one, at less than $50 is far less expensive than many other models.

However, cell phone jammers are seriously illegal. Even in private spaces like offices? Really? The most common explanation is that you shouldn't be able to block somebody else's 911 call. However, as of 2003, no one had ever been charged for using one. Not that we're saying you should get any ideas. We just thought this one looked cool. For members of the U.S. government only.
