PML Mini goes from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds, uses four electric motors
Engineers are finally figuring out how to boost the performance of electric vehicles to that of high-end gas-powered cars. First there was the Tesla Roadster, now comes the PML Mini. Outfitted with a small internal combustion engine and four electric engines (one per wheel), the PML Mini has a total of 640 horsepower. It jumps off the line, going from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds and topping out around 150 mph. If it runs solely on the electric engines, it can make it about 250 miles without needing a recharge; kick in the combustion engine and that figure jumps to about 930 miles. Rather than coming equipped with mechanical brakes, the car stops via efficient generators that reuse the energy acquired during acceleration. Unfortunately, this is a modded car, not a production model, so you won't be able to buy one anytime soon. However, the technology is obviously out there for environmentally friendly vehicles that have the hearts of sports cars, so hopefully we'll see similar vehicles hit highways in the near future.
