High-tech scale weighs in on your body fat
We know we can sometimes get pretty snarky about the lame gadgets out there that pass themselves off as "innovations," but we really do love technology here at SCI FI Tech (it's in the name), and it's products like the Body Fat Control Scale that show us why. Here's a gadget that takes the everyday experience of weighing yourself and uses technology to improve upon it in a meaningful way: in addition to telling you your current poundage, the BFCS will also let you know your percentage of body fat. All you need to do (apart from stepping on the thing) is input your age, height, and gender — the scale can keep track of up to four different people at once. The idea is that when you begin a training program to lose weight, you'll likely build muscle at the same time you're burning excess fat, which means your overall weight won't change for a while, even though you could already be fitter and healthier. With the BFCS, you won't get discouraged like you would with a regular scale, which would keep showing you the same weight no matter how many crunches you do at the gym. It works by passing a tiny electrical current through your body and measuring your body's resistance (since fat has very low conductivity compared with the rest of your tissue). Great idea, plus we respect its high-tech design — it should look right at home in bathrooms of the future.
