Traveling in a foreign land and don't know how to ask where the john is? The Voice Travel Mate is a pocket translator capable of interpreting 700 commonly used phrases among 12 international languages including Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Japanese. Just pick your phrase ("Please take a photo of us," for example), hit the red Voice button, and the Travel Mate will verbally relay your request in the listener's native tongue. If you're thinking it'll sound gratingly mechanical, the voices in the online demo seem pretty human, if a little dorky. The Travel Mate probably won't help much if you're looking to discuss Euclid with a Greek, but it should get you through the basics: greetings, getting directions, ordering food. Price is $50.
