Anyone with an HDTV — even one that has only component-video inputs for HD — will be able to watch Universal Pictures' HD DVD movies in high-definition. The company announced that its discs in the new format, coming later in the spring, won't have the digital flag that down-rezzes the HD picture to a lower resolution for component-video connectors. The flag is intended to stymie pirates.… Two business associations, which count Intel, Nokia, and Microsoft among their members, are sticking with Bluetooth as the wireless technology of the future. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group and the WiMedia Alliance are looking to improve the short-range wireless tech, known mainly for its use in wireless headsets for cell phones, to make it 100 times faster than the current version by 2008.… A digital security company beat Microsoft to the punch in coming up with a patch for Internet Explorer 6, which has a flaw that makes it possible for a hacker to take over the PC running the Web browser. The fix from eEye Digital Security is intended as an immediate solution to the problem and will immediately delete itself from a PC as soon as the owner installs the official patch from Microsoft, due next month.
