Tool-Lok: could make stealing iPods less trendy

While Tool-Lok probably won't eliminate all electronics theft, it may make a miscreant contemplate risk versus reward. Tool-Lok — embedded RF circuitry in your portable — automatically locks up a device after a preprogrammed number of hours, and without an owner's small wireless electronic key, the device is rendered useless. One key can be used to control multiple products. The safety system is intended for everything from MP3 players to digital cameras to cell phones. Unfortunately, you can't just buy Tool-lok and install it on your iPod — it needs to be built in at the factory. Until manufacturers get with the program, I'll keep the Batman duds close by in case a lowlife plays grabby-hands with my mobile.
