HAL 9000 makes a comeback

It's pretty sad to see a flawless (well, nearly flawless) masterpiece of artificial intelligence reduced to a slab of flash memory. Nonetheless, you may get a kick out of pocketing the HAL 9000 "Memory Unit," a $70 1-GB stick o' flash that sports the eerie red eye of the badass computer from 2001. It's about 1.5 inches long quite a bit shorter than those plastic-wafer thingies in the movie, but we've made a lot of progress in five years. It's compatible with USB 2.0 for faster data-transfer speeds than you would get with older 1.1 ports, but you're on your own if you try to put an MP3 of "Daisy" on it.
