Smartphone app delivers ice cream to your location in minutes

The US is currently in throes of an epic heat wave that has power companies struggling to keep up with power demands and has even has some doctors warning East Coast residents to avoid "heat rage." In response to the sweltering temperatures, Uber, an on-demand car service that allows you to order service via iPhone, has unveiled a refreshing update to its service.

Available only for today, starting from 11am to 5pm, Uber Ice Cream will allow anyone to, for the first time in the history of refrigerated snacks, actually order an ice cream truck to arrive at a specific location and dole out the frosty treats. The program is available in select US cities including New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and several others. The process is as simple as downloading the app for the iPhone or Android devices and selecting the "ice cream" option instead of the "request a ride" option.

Uber is also making the feature available for international locations including London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Singapore, Sydney, and others. However, if you're just looking for a single cone, you might want to find a few friends first because the service is only available for order bundles of at least five or six ice creams per order. For example, prices in New York are $30 for six people, while in London the price is 20 pounds for five people.

You can get an idea of how the service works in the video below.
