Drones take to the surf, thanks to the Zipheus project

There's a sea monster funding on Kickstarter right now. It's name is Ziphius and its likely going to be lurking about in swimming pools and off beachfronts the world over very soon. Like a stealthy, aquatic one-eyed Manta Ray it waits for you.

It waits for you to tell it what to do, that is. That's because Ziphius is actually far from being the sea monster of your nightmares. It's more like the pet seal you always wanted — if seals came loaded with games and a camera. The darn thing's adorable to boot.

Once you've got your hands on this cute little drone, the waters of the world just might feel a whole lot more inviting — even if you don't get wet. With the swiveling onboard camera, you'll be able to explore what's on or below the surface of the sea (or pool). You can even take HD videos of real sea monsters and post them to Youtube, right from your smartphone.

But your phone won't just merely operate Ziphius' camera. You'll be able to control the little bugger's movements and play augmented reality games too. You can even set and adjust Ziphius' "personality" through your smartphone, making it dance or play fetch autonomously. There's even a cup-holder.

To snag a Ziphius of your own, head on over to the project's Kickstarter page here. And to see how cute an aquatic drone really can be, check out the video below.
