Image of the Day: Guy builds giant robot out of scraps

Tao Xiangli is a Chinese inventor we've been following for years. Back in 2009, we posted about a submarine he built by himself for just $4,385. Now, he's back with another awesome DIY project.

This time, he used scrap metal and electrical cables to build a 529-pound robot that stands at nearly seven feet tall. This undertaking set Xiangli back $24,407 and took nearly a year to complete. The result is pretty great, albeit menacing, in the picture above by Suzie Wong.

Someone should introduce Xiangli to the guy who built the life-like Transformers costume we recently covered.
