Barista Bot takes your pic, then prints it onto your latte

When it gets busy at the local coffee shop, sometimes the barista will write your name on the side of the cup to avoid confusion. That's fine if your name is Xavier or Guinnevere, but it can still cause problems for those of us with more common names. The Barista Bot aims to end this type of mix-up forever, by taking your picture, then actually printing it directly on the head of your latte.

Printing pretty pictures on the foamy head of a latte is not exactly a new idea, but the Barista Bot takes the procedure to a new level by adding the picture taking system. The picture doesn't really look like a high-rez photo, but it's probably sharp enough to ensure that you won't end up with some other guy's latte macchiato with a triple shot of amaretto.

Don't look for the Barista Bot at your local Starbucks any time soon. It was a collaboration developed by RockPaperRobot, Hypersonic, Jamie Zigelbaum, and Kyle McDonald as a fun project to bring to this year's SXSW festival. The festival runs through this coming weekend, so if you happen to be attending, go and check it out.

If, like me, you aren't lucky enough to be in Austin, TX for the festival, check out the video below to see the Barista Bot in action.
