SkyJack hacks AR Drones, makes them yours

By combining all our favorite things, like a Raspberry Pi, a Parrot AR.Drone quadcopter, and wireless transmitters, hacker Samy Kamkar has managed to build SkyJack, bringing us drone-on-drone hacking.

The name SkyJack has a menacing edge to it and with good reason. This drone can take to the skies, seek out Parrot AR.Drones, and hijack the wireless signals that control them, essentially completely taking them over. The way the software is written, it monitors the media access control addresses of all Wi-Fi devices within its range. If one belongs to a Parrot AR.Drone, it commands said drone to disconnect from whatever device is controlling it, thus creating zombie drone that can be controlled by the smartphone of whomever programmed the SkyJack.

This is a particularly interesting time for such a drone to pop into existence, given Amazon’s (and now UPS’s) absurd claim that it’ll begin delivering packages via, you guessed it, drones.

Let's hope they have insurance.

Check out Kamkar take his SkyJack out for a spin in the video below.
