Image of the Day: Harnessing the power of the sun

Eventually, every single source of energy on Earth is going to run out. All of them. It's entropy, and it may very well finish off the rest of the universe given enough time, but at least it'll take a little bit longer. We have to start preparing for this right now, by taking advantage of the longest lasting continuous source of energy the solar system has to offer: the Sun.

This is the BrightSource energy Ivanpah solar plant, currently nearing operational status out in the California desert. When it comes online, the 170,000 mirrors focusing sunlight on the collection tower will collectively generate 377 megawatts of green, happy energy, which is enough to power 140,000 homes.
