Go on aquatic away missions in this 'Star Trek' inspired boat

In a pretty obvious nod to the shuttlecraft of Star Trek fame, this little pod of a boat wants to take you and your away team out across Earth's final frontier. It's called the Jet Capsule, and even its creator Pierpaolo Lazzarini admits that it looks a lot like something straight out of sci-fi. Lazzarini also envisions his creation to function in much the way a shuttlecraft does in the world of Star Trek.

"[It's] a boat small enough to be easily maneuvered, yet spacious enough to take a handful of friends out for drinks, over to a port for an evening’s entertainment."

What he's basically describing is an aquatic version of, say, a Type 6 shuttlecraft. And the similarities don't end with intended use. A rear deck entry mimics how a crew would board a small shuttlecraft, underwater running lights give the distinct impression of submerged nacelles and even the navigational console looks like something a Federation pilot would be right at home behind.

With a top speed of 25 knots, the Jet Capsule can't quite get you up to full impulse, but it'll still show you a good time. And with seating for you and up to eight friends, you can support quite the impressive away team. There's even a rooftop deck for sunning yourself during shore leave. If you're still not convinced that this little boat is totally sci-fi inspired, go ahead and take a look at the video below. As for us, we're already scrambling to reserve the name Galileo for ours.
