Tomorrow's the big day for all things iPad related. Apple is expected to announce a redesigned full-size iPad, an iPad mini with Retina display and updates to the MacBook Pro notebooks, as well as news on the Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.
All of that is fine and dandy, but a will Apple surprise everyone with a new keyboard attachment as well? According to a blog post by former Apple employee Jamie Ryan, sources within the company informed him "a case for the full size iPad that mimics Microsofts touch cover has been prototyped."
Although Ryan says he's not sure if the keyboard accessory is ready or not for tomorrow's announcement (it may just be a prototype and nothing more), he believes that if Apple does reveal the keyboard accessory, it could reposition the larger 9.7-inch iPad as a "pro" product that will be a productivity powerhouse. In his logic, the 7.9-inch iPad mini would be elevated to being the mainstream iPad. And that's not all. Ryan says other cover accessories are being considered.
What would make a keyboard cover special? Only Apple knows. Or, maybe it won't be anything more than a new Apple-branded keyboard. It seems silly that Apple would sell its own keyboard cover given the myriad of third-party accessories out there. But remember, Apple revealed new leather cases and cases for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, and those are don't offer anything different from third-party cases other than an officially stamped Apple logo.
Like everyone else, we'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow. We'll be live updating tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT to give you the full skinny on the new iPads.
