Want to make a Gingerbread house that you can't eat? Me either! But using a laser and a CAD program, you can do it anyway!
This Christmas story is brought to us by Swede Johan von Konow and his (unnamed) wife. Johan used the design of his summer home as a model for his prospective gingerbread miniature. He then baked a large sheet of gingerbread and used a CAD program to determine the thirty-two pieces that would require laser cutting.
The laser engraver burnt through the gingerbread quite thoroughly. Konow reports that the smell of the burning gingerbread was "something between burned cake and burned hair." This holiday decoration was not to be an edible one. The pieces were then fitted together with hot glue and sheets of lasagna. There's a walkthrough over on Konow's blog, linked below. You know, if you have a spare laser engraver laying about.
